Rebel Wilson names Bridesmaids as the film that means the most to her, remembering how it felt to land her first Hollywood job among an ensemble of established comedians.
“I was just a girl from Australia, and came to America with one suitcase, and then I booked this movie,” she said. “I felt I was the most junior person on that set, and I got to come in and experience what a big Hollywood comedy is.”

The 2011 film put her alongside Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd. Wilson credits the chance to improvise with director Paul Feig, producer Judd Apatow and the cast as a turning point in her career.
The paycheck was $3,500. Wilson previously explained on the Diary of a CEO podcast that the money went toward joining the union, while expenses for attending the premiere left her out of pocket. “So, I lost money doing Bridesmaids,” she said.
During that stretch in Los Angeles, she said she had $60 a week left after rent and car hire. “It was basically having that focus, trying to write for myself, going to auditions.”
