Ethan Hawke told Drew Barrymore that, back in the 1990s, he’d head to parties hoping to run into her. Recalling those nights on The Drew Barrymore Show, he said he still couldn’t believe they’d never dated, and she wanted to know where he’d been.
“Where were you? And by the way what me and every other girl on the planet wouldn’t have given to date you. Where the hell were you?” Barrymore asked.
The episode aired on October 16, 2026. In its description of the episode, the show said Hawke and Barrymore would talk about season 2 of The Lowdown.
“I can’t remember a time in my life when I was not aware of you,” Hawke told her. Barrymore replied, “That’s how I feel about you!”
Hawke explained why he’d waited for a romance to develop: “I wanted to play it cool. I wanted it to happen organically. I thought, you know, something magic would happen.”
Barrymore teased him about the result: nothing had happened between them.
Hawke’s been married to Ryan since 2008. Barrymore, who’s been married 3 times, shares daughters Olive and Frankie with her ex-husband Will Kopelman.
