Alex Cooper on the Cornell Lawsuit: “Every Single One of Us Knows a Jane Doe. Many of Us Are Jane Doe.”

Alex Cooper opened the Sunday, October 11, episode of Call Her Daddy by framing the Cornell lawsuit as part of a pattern she says women already know by heart.

Pointing to how common the experience is, Cooper said, “More than one in five women have experienced rape.” She added, “So every single one of us knows a Jane Doe. Many of us are Jane Doe,” according to a transcript of the episode on Singju Post.

Her guest was Kate Manne, a philosopher who has taught at Cornell since 2013 and who told Cooper, “For the record, I believe Jane Doe.”

Filing legal documents on September 16 in the New York Supreme Court, an anonymous former student identified as Jane Doe alleges that seven Chi Phi brothers drugged and raped her at an October 2024 fraternity party. She says the assault happened on October 19, 2024.

“I wanted to talk about this today because it is so important to note it has been almost a decade since the #MeToo movement first started. A decade. How the hell are we still here?” Cooper, 32, said. She called the situation exhausting “and more importantly, it is infuriating.”

Cooper, who cofounded the Unwell Network, said Doe’s allegations “carry the weight of countless stories we hold as women.”
