Inde Navarrette held hands with her boyfriend, musician Nick Aiello, as they left Chateau Marmont after a dinner date in Los Angeles on Sunday, Aug. 16. At five feet tall, Navarrette is more than a foot shorter than Aiello, who lists his height as 6 feet 3 inches.

Navarrette’s role in Obsession has given her a new way to tease her dad: she sends him memes of herself when she wants to tell him to stop doing something. The 25-year-old actress is enjoying that part of her sudden fame while working out how much of the attention to take personally.

Navarrette plays Nikki in Curry Barker’s horror hit, which has earned more than $500 million against a $750,000 budget. She previously appeared in 13 Reasons Why and Superman and Lois.

Asked whether she really sends her own memes to people, she said, “Oh, absolutely, are you kidding me?” But enjoying the joke comes with a boundary. “Of course, attention feels great, but I think that it’s really important to recognise how it makes you feel and where you get your cup filled,” she said.

Her way of staying grounded is to remind herself that she can enjoy the attention without taking ownership of everything people say: “You know what? This is really fun, but some of it isn’t my business.”

That same concern about outside validation came up when she discussed relationships. Navarrette, who’s dating Aiello, said playing Nikki reinforced the importance of independence. She’s happy in her relationship and wants to give herself room to grow without having every answer.

“The amount of attention or love that you are getting from somebody else does not define yourself whatsoever,” she said. “I think it’s really important to remember that.”
