Dan Levy says he was “speechless” after Shane Gillis called women at the gym “whores” on SNL, and he urged men to speak up against it.
Levy posted his response to Instagram on Oct. 11, a day after Gillis hosted SNL for the third time and told the audience he “didn’t know women just dress like whores now” at the gym. The studio audience groaned.

“Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists,” Levy said. “By the way, I’ve seen more men’s nipples at the gym than I’ve ever seen women showing their bodies off.”

He pushed the point past the joke. “I’m speechless that something like that can exist on live national television,” he said, adding that “more men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it’s complacency that has created the environment in which women are sexually assaulted and it’s a ‘conversation’ as opposed to a ‘crime.’”
Levy said men need to be “defending women more” and called it “an everybody issue.”
Gillis has a complicated history with the show. Days after SNL brought him on in September 2019, the show let him go over slurs on his podcast, cutting ties before his first episode ever aired. He returned to host in February 2024.
